| | Fasting | : : What is Spiritual Fasting? | | | In a purely traditional spiritual sense, fasting is abstaining from solid food for the purposes of mourning, repenting, and seeking the Lord's favor. In rare and radical cases, heroes of the Bible fasted food and liquids, including water. The Bible mentions many kinds fasts of throughout the Old and New Testaments.
If you trust the Lord for your time of fasting, He will lead you on the type of fast that He desires for your particular circumstances and needs. You may fast solid food for the entire 40 days; you may fast one meal a day; you may fast one day a week. Your journey will be unique and can not be compared to anyone else's experience. However, it is important to enter into this sacred time with the Lord earnestly and with a pure heart, hopefully anticipating the journey on which He will lead you. According to your faithfulness and willing spirit, the Lord will bless your intentions and sustain you during your fast.
Please understand that the fasting referred to throughout the Trumpet and Torch website is purely a spiritual discipline; no fasting references are intended for physical, medical, or other purposes. While we believe that the Lord will take you on the type of fast that He intends for you, we encourage you to seek medical guidance before beginning a fast, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or currently suffering an illness or disease.
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1).

Jesus, fully man and fully God, experienced every emotion and sensation as His children do: hunger, weakness, tiredness. The significant difference, of course, is that even in His weakened state, Jesus perfectly avoided temptation and sin. He did so by completely relying on the Word of God. Jesus knows that you will feel weak, hungry, sick, and even afraid at times, but He will sustain you in ways you never thought possible. To receive that sustenance, you must persevere in trust and faithfulness.

| | Fasting | : : I'm Afraid to Fast! | | Fasting | : : How Fasting Relates to the The Great Commandment | | | The Great Commandment, as Jesus replied to the Pharisees in Matthew 22:37-38 is to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself."
Fasting, as outlined in Isaiah 58, accomplishes both the first and second greatest commandments and also highlights the "true" fast (indicated by actions representative of Christ's character) as opposed to the "legalistic" fast (indicated by actions representative of arrogant, sinful, and unrepentant human hearts). looking to cheat click how to tell if wife has cheated is my husband cheated on me open i almost cheated on my husband
| | Fasting | : : True Fasting as Detailed in Isaiah 58 | | | 1" 'Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to My people their rebellion and to the house of Jacob their sins. 2For day after day they seek Me out; they seem eager to know My ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask Me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them. 3'Why have we fasted,' they say, 'and You have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and You have not noticed?' 'Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers. 4Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high. 5Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for a man to humble himself? Is it only for bowing one's head like a reed and for lying on sackcloth and ashes? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the LORD? 6'Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? 7Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter--when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? 8Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. 9Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say: Here am I. 'If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, 10 if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. 11 LORD will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. 12Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings. 13'If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on My Holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD's holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, 14then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob. | | Fasting | : : Isn't Fasting Practiced by Other Religions (and By Those with No Religion?) | | Fasting | : : Why Fast Now? | | Fasting | : : Corporate and Intercessory Fasting | | Fasting | : : 2008 Lenten Fast | | |
We at Trumpet and Torch believe that the Lord has anointed a time of fasting during the 2008 Lenten season. This 40-day call to fast begins on February 6th (Ash Wednesday) and ends on March 16th (Palm Sunday). During this time, regular schedules will be set aside so that each of us may make the Lord the ultimate priority. The Trumpet and Torch website exists and was specifically designed to provide a practical tool, EAT, which, through a daily devotional journey, leads each individual believer into a disciplined lifestyle of seeking God through mealtime. We believe that the resources within this site exist "for such a time as this." (Reference Esther 4:14). We believe that the Lord is calling His Church to awaken and to prepare herself for His return. To that end, each individual believer must step forward in faith and purpose to seek God first, with a complete and undivided heart, and with oneness of soul, mind, and strength (reference Mark 12:30 and Luke 10:27). Then, the Lord's intention to use the Church (the body of Christ) as salt and light in the world (reference Matthew 5:13-16) will accomplish His purpose of spreading the gospel to the four corners of the earth (reference Matthew 28:19-20). Individually, we each must re-establish connection with our Creator Father in order to channel His heart and His will throughout the earth. We are living in the midst of a spiritual famine in our land, and our own lives have become parched by and polluted with the world's agenda; we must be cleansed and refreshed with the power of the Holy Spirit, the living water of the living God. "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." (John 7:37b-38). To allow the Living Water to fully flow within us, we must unclog our hearts and lives from the worldly debris that clutters, crowds, and contaminates the purity and simplicity of His promise. We must pray, as David prayed, for an unadulterated heart, for abiding faithfulness, and for enthusiastic service: "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10). " 'Even now,' declares the LORD, 'return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity. ...Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a Holy fast, call a sacred assembly...' " (Joel 2:12-13, 15). This is our preparation period for His return. His Bride (the Church) must awaken and dress; we must be consecrated and purified for His arrival. With each individual resolution, a corporate shifting of His Church will occur. As each single heart fully turns to Him, the collective heartbeat of the Church will grow louder and stronger, unified in our bold pronouncement that Jesus is our Lord and Savior! Then, as the Lord promises in Revelation 7:16-17, "Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; He will lead them to springs of Living Water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." sex stories older woman teenboy click stories of train sex prescription discounts cards coupons free walgreens in store photo coupons
| | Fasting | : : I'm a Pastor; How Do I Get My Congregation Involved? | | Fasting | : : I'm a Parent; How Do I Include My Children in this 40-Day Journey? | | | The Trumpet and Torch website provides helpful information and resources for parents who desire to share their journey with their children and instill in them the discipline of feasting upon the Word of God at a young age. This ministry does not endorse restricting or eliminating food from the diet of young children in any way. This website is designed to help believers grow in their intimacy with the Lord by feasting upon the Word of God and prayer. The Lord commanded us to teach these things to our children so that when they grow up they will not depart from them (Deuteronomy 6:4-9; 11:18-21; Proverbs 22:6). Our prayer is that this journey will not only instill in parents the blessings of abiding in Christ, but also raise up a future generation of children who will learn from a very young age the importance of meditating on the Scriptures and praying to their Heavenly Father.
