WHO WILL SOUND THE TRUMPET?

"Blow the trumpet in Zion,

declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly.

Gather the people, consecrate the assembly...

Let the bridegroom leave his room and the bride her chamber.

Let the priests, who minister before the LORD,

weep between the temple porch and the altar."

-          Joel 2:15-17a

Greetings!

I write this letter to you with a humble and heavy heart.  "Oh, the agony of my heart!  My heart pounds within me, I cannot keep silent.  For I have heard the sound of the trumpet; I have heard the battle cry" (Jeremiah 4:19).

In Matthew 14 the Lord replied to His disciples questioning of how they could feed the multitudes, "They do not need to go away.  You give them something to eat".  His faithful followers, who had been His closest companions during His pilgrimage on earth, and who had heard the Word of the Lord straight from the mouth of the Lord, time and time again, were well aware of the need of the people, but, sadly, they did not have eyes to see the answer that was right there in front of them.

Jesus demonstrated His provision and told them, "Bring them here to Me".  When we place what little we have in the mighty hands of our Lord He does nothing less than astound us with His power and His provision.  For many of us we fail to see what has been given to us, even though it has been in our hands all along.

We are standing at a spiritual crossroads in our country and the great divide is Truth.  For over 70 years now the lie that our nation is not a Christian nation, it is not founded on Biblical principles, and the Church needs to keep its mouth closed when it comes to matters of public policy, has been circulating.  Entire generations have been raised to believe a history that was re-written to purposely remove all evidence of God and His providential hand in establishing and prospering this great nation.  The subtle influence of these lies has begun to seep into the Church and we have begun to compromise the Truth of God's Holy Word.

The Word of God is our guide - it is the Truth.  If we are to learn anything from our history we must heed the warnings the Lord gave to His chosen people Israel, who were called to love the Lord with all their hearts, obey His commands, and to teach them to their children. It was only when they were walking in obedience to the Father that they received peace, achieved victory, and experience safety and rest. When they chose to walk in rebellion and sin they were given over to the hands of the enemy for discipline and correction.

Over 200 years ago the United States of America was established because a group of faithful men, many of which held seminary degrees, and who loved the Lord and believed the Holy Bible to be their guiding Light and their only source of power against an evil tyrant.  That Tyrant is still wielding his ugly head, and he will not cease to rest until he has detached us from our true Head and only sure foundation - Jesus Christ.

The good news is, "No one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 3:11).  The cracked and bulging walls of oppression and deception will come down.  This will be accomplished if we are willing, as a nation of believers and followers of Jesus Christ, to return to the Truth of the Word of God and submit to His authority with complete obedience and surrender.

The Scriptures tell us, "He will be a sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure" (Isaiah 33:6).  The key to unlocking the door of heaven and flooding this land with God's mercy and grace is to return to the Lord with all our hearts; to seek Him in His Word and in prayer.  This is the missing and vital component of our lives, our Church, and our nation.

The Lord is stirring the Church to awaken and many believers are crying out to the Lord to show His hand of mercy in these tumultuous times, sadly, however, our hearts are far from Him.  We are pilgrims and sojourners who have been given the task of radiating the Light and Love of Christ in a world lost in darkness and sin, but instead of being His faithful ambassadors, we have pitched our tents and become complacent and lazy in a world that is not our home.  We have lost our passion for our First Love.  The Body of Christ has become weak and weary - we need to be refreshed and strengthened to continue the work we have been commissioned to do.

We have much to repent of, and the only way back is to go back to the beginning - to return to our sure foundation:  "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1).  Let us pray for our pastors, and for all believers across this nation, to turn their hearts fully to the Lord so that we can be nourished and strengthened and empowered to feed a starving world with the glorious good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We have in our hands the food they say desperately need, but we can't feed them when we are so malnourished ourselves.  Let us rise up to answer our holy and noble calling and return this nation back to the foundation it was built upon - Jesus Christ.  May we become diligent students of the Word of God and passionate people of prayer so we can be strengthened and emboldened with Truth to raise our voices like a trumpet and call this nation back to God!

"Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.

Declare to my people their rebellion and to the house of Jacob their sins.

For day after day they seek me out;

they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right

and has not forsaken the commands of its God.

They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them."
